In 1983, while I was living in London with my husband who was then the Ambassador to the Court of St. James’s, I discovered an exquisite small shop on West Halkin Street in a quaint section of Belgravia. The shop was called Eximious, meaning excellent, distinguished, and eminent. Offering beautiful personalized gifts, the shop was frequented by all the royal households and leaders of Europe.
Upon our, return to the States, I purchased Eximious with the desire to deliver, unique and high quality giftware. We kept the shop in London and set up a mail order business in the United States. In time, Eximious was honored with the Royal Warrant, bestowed by H.R.H. Prince Charles.
After 26 wonderful years, I have decided to retire and close Eximious. The current economic climate has made this decision a little easier, but it is still difficult to let go of something that has given me so much enjoyment over so many years. I did consider selling Eximious to a few select competitors, but of course they are facing their own struggles now and I was particularly concerned that a new owner would not continue the legacy and devotion to quality which has been Eximious’ trademark.
The history of Eximious would not be important if it had not been for you, our American customers. I am most grateful for all the years you have given us your patronage. Your enthusiasm for our products and welcome response has been truly rewarding, thank you.
Gratefully,

Josephine P. Louis
Chairwoman
